The mid-size luxury crossover that started it all is all new for 2016. Lexus has redesigned the RX and that includes the RX 450H hybrid. The interior is awash with leather and soft-touch upholstered surfaces, and the A-pillars have been made thinner for better visibility and a brighter interior. Both of these make for a much nicer place to be over the old one. Not that the old one wasn't a class leader. It doesn't have the third row of an Acura MDX, or the sporting intentions of the BMW X5 or Porsche Macan, but none of them can offer the 7.7 L/100 km city, 8.2 highway rated fuel economy of the RX, which can make it an excellent value.
The RX 450h gets a 3.5L V6 that makes 259 hp and the front axle has a 165 hp electric motor. Providing the all-wheel drive is a 67 hp electric motor on the rear axle. The total is 308 hp and a massive amount of torque. The transmission is a CVT. The RX comes standard with power tilt and telescoping heated steering wheel, and dual-zone climate. There is a 12-speaker stereo with bluetooth, USB, and satellite radio. The seats are perforated leather with 10-way power adjustment, heat (front and rear), and ventilation for the front seats. There is a back-up camera, 4.2-inch driver info display, and a 12.3-inch infotainment system with navigation. The headlights and taillights are LED, and there are 20-inch wheels.
An optional FSPORT package gets a 15-speaker Mark Levinson audio system, a touch free power tailgate, drive mode select, special grille, badge, and trim, glass roof, and head-up display. There is also collision warning, radar cruise, paddle shifters, upgraded leather seats, and side-view monitors. There is an Executive plus pack with Mark Levinson sound, wireless headphones, rear seat entertainment screens, power tailgate, panoramic roof, collision warning, radar cruise, paddle shifters, upgraded leather seats, side-view monitors, and power folding rear seats.
